The first part, with Caroline going to work for the irascible Mrs Catling, was intriguing and well written, ibdiscretion I was already wondering where the story was leading, but the country house shenanigans were hardly worth waiting for and the ending was rushed.

Right up there with the best of Georgette Heyer and the author owes a huge debt to Jane Austen. She had a quick tongue, an active fancy, and a turn for wit, but these she employed, in truth, somewhat as a shield behind which she could shelter. Caroline leaves Sophia to live with her aunt’s family at Wythorpe Manor, where she makes mogran with the luminous Isabella Milner, who is preparing for her wedding to Richard Leabrook.

Despite years of experience fending for herself, Caro is still indiscretio, and she finds that shifting into the quieter mode of Soc Caroline Fortune is a woman of good sense and good humor, both of which she’s needed in order to survive.

I have to admit to skimming the last third. What a charming book. However, the author’s verbosity made everything so boring.

The basic story concept is the beloved stuff of classic Regency romance–a young woman, raised by a well-born but dissolute, gambling father, is forced by his bankruptcy to seek employment with a nasty but wealthy old woman who gets her jollies by manipulating and abusing her staff and relatives.

When a long-lost relative rescues Caroline from this battleground, she finds herself comfortably and securely situated among people who love her in the village of Huntingdonshire, where, you may have heard, “it is all just narrow provincial dullness. Georgette Heyer is great in her own right, but she really dealt with a different societal world than Jane did — the aristocracy vs. It is as the cover claims a bit like Georgette Heyer, although not as funny.

What’s a dialog tag? Really charming light read in the style of Jane Austen or I think, more appropriately Georgette Heyer. She wrote one book I liked, and all the rest have been a frustration, but I keep hoping, because of the one I liked. Dice, wine, and trollops is all they are good for’ – judee what he matches in style, he misses in substance.
